The Delaware County Master Gardener Association is excited to recognize Susan Liechty for her extensive contributions to our organization and Delaware County by dedicating the 2017 DCMGA Scholarship to her. Since 1995, she has been a constant source of support and inspiration. Her efforts directly helped mold the DCMGA into the vibrant and growing organization it is today with over 100 members spreading our love for gardening across Delaware County.
Just a few of Susan's notable contributions include:
* Became the first DCMGA President in 1995.
* Created the highly successful program Green Thumbs, A Gardeners Fair. With her vision, guidance, hard work, and perseverance, Green Thumbs developed into a community event reaching over 700 people between 2005 and 2010. She also helped create fifteen educational classes and, as the Vendor Chairperson, brought in 56 vendors to exhibit.
* Founded the Delaware County Unit of the Herb Society of America in 1997 and became the 2015-16 National President of the Herb Society.
* Accrued over 3500 volunteer hours - by far the most in the entire organization. She is always willing to talk to our students and in a variety of public settings. Her talks always receive the highest reviews, which is a testament to her knowledge and ability to deliver quality education.
In addition, Susan is one of our strongest supporters for advanced master gardener education, an integral part of the Education Committee’s work, writes articles for publication, and give talks around the country.
The Delaware County Master Gardener Association is extremely fortunate to have Susan as a volunteer and founding member. She is an inspiration and an important asset to us and to all Delaware County gardeners. We are very thankful for all she does on our behalf.
It is with great pleasure we dedicate the 2017 DCMGA Scholarship to Susan Liechty.
