Delaware County is located approximately twenty miles north of the state capital, Columbus, and is not only the fastest growing county in Ohio, but one of the fastest growing in the nation. OSU Extension helps farmers and landowners manage their property including woodlands, streams, and water resources. In 2009 - helping farmers to find innovative ways to improve efficiency in production - while protecting the environment. Some facts about Ag in Delaware County According to the Ohio Ag Statistics for 2008, the number of farms in the county was approximately 720 with the average size being 188 acres. Total land in production was estimated at 135,000 acres. In 2008 the number of cattle and calves totaled 3,600 with hogs and pigs numbering 35,400. Delaware county had 1,100 sheep and lambs. Crop yields for 2008 were: Corn: 36,200 acres harvested with an average yield of 148.3 bushels per acre. Soybeans: 70,200 acres harvested with an average yield of 34.0 bushels per acre. Wheat: 2007 stats: 8,600 acres harvested with a yield of 61.3, and Hay: 2008 stats: 8,200 acres harvested with a yield of 2.60.

The 2009 yields are looking pretty good, but delayed planting, a cool summer and what seems to be a non-ending, wet-dry cycle has plagued some standing field corn with high kernel moisture and mold and fungal infections that could lead to serious problems with grain quality.
