Providing Unforgettable Family Memories and Educational Experiences

Take part in a special Outdoor Education Program designed specifically for homeschool families. Explore the beautiful setting at 4-H Camp Ohio (www.4hcampohio.com), near Utica. Take part in our hands-on sessions that will provide your children first-rate educational experiences. We offer opportunities for experiencing nature, living history, adventure programming and science.
Cost: $15 per child
Parents and children age 5 and under are free (Parents going on the High Ropes Course - $10)
Payment: Send registration form and check made out to OSU Extension, Delaware Co., 149 N. Sandusky Street, Delaware OH, 43015.

Sessions: All sessions are done in small groups (20 or less) to provide the best possible hands-on educational experiences. Parents and children will both register for sessions to provide a family atmosphere and allow you to enhance your children’s learning once you are back home.
Instructions for Session Registration: After registration, we will send an email to you with the web site address to register for sessions. Please use the session numbers listed below for session registration. All participants in a session should register. For example, if a parent and child are both doing high ropes, then both should register. If the parent will only go to observe and will not go up on the course, then the parent would not register.

Session Descriptions:
Adventure Tower: Test your climbing skills on our rock wall and experience “flying” on the zipline. Harness and helmets provided. Uses 3-person, back-up belay system. Limit 20. Ages 10 and older. 2 hours.
Amish Farm: Experience first-hand what farming was like when horse-drawn plows and wagons were used before electricity and motors. Watch and converse our Amish farmer. Limit 20. 1 hour.
Archery: Practice marksmanship and learn archery basics. Ages 9 and older. Limit 12. 1 hour.
Cloverbud Fun: These hands-on activities are geared especially for children ages 5 to 8 (Kindergarten through 2nd grade). This is a great option for younger siblings! Limit 10. 1 hour.
Dendrology: Identify common Ohio trees, measure height and diameter, predict ages and discover how people influence forest life. Limit 20. 1 hour.
Global Positioning Systems (GPS): Use technology to learn orienteering and mapping skills. Limit 20. 1 hour.
High Ropes: Push your limits at our 16 elements 20-30 feet in the air. Harness and helmet provided. Limit 15. Ages 12 and older. Minimum height requirement 5 feet. Cost is covered in registration fee for children. Parents can go up on the course for a $10 per person fee. About 3½ hours.
Native American: Walk in another’s moccasins and experience Native American life in a tipi and wigwam. Limit 20. 2 hours.
Nature Center: Spend some self-guided time in our extensive nature center. Explore our library, view animal mounts and interactive displays. Parent supervision required.
Pond: Interpret the physical characteristics of a pond. Find and identify various organisms found in and around the pond. Discuss the water cycle.
Stream Study: Interpret physical characteristics of a stream including pH and current. Collect and identify organisms found in the Rocky Fork Stream. Limit 20. 1 hour.
What a Waste: Find out what happens to our waste and how it can be recycled. EnviroScape models are used to look at pollutions and our ecosystem. Limit 20. 1 hour.
Wild Edibles: Try a little primitive food gathering and learn about some of our common wild edibles. Sample a few and learn which to avoid. Limit 20. 1 hour.
Wildflower Hike: Find and learn about some of the beautiful spring wildflowers. Also study the uses of these plants by people. Limit 20. 1 hour.
